Silver Comet Trail brings couple from Wisconsin to Polk County

When Rockmart Police Chief Keith Sorrells asked Denis and Sharon Druker jokingly if they’d driven all the way from Wisconsin just to ride the Silver Comet Trail, he had no idea their answer would actually be yes.

Sorrells just happened to be out patrolling the trail when he saw the Drukers unloading their bikes. “I noticed their tag said Wisconsin and I was just trying to be funny when I asked them if they’d come all this way to ride the trail. I was surprised when they told me yes,” Sorrells said.

As it turns out, the Drukers, who hail from Kenosha, Wis., were in search of a place within a day’s drive from their home, somewhere warmer (they were here before North Georgia’s most recent blast of frigid air) and somewhere with a long biking trail.

Polk County fit the bill in every way.

Sharon said finding Polk County was just pure luck, as information on the Silver Comet Trail popped up during an Internet search.

“We saw that the Silver Comet connected with Alabama’s Chief LaDiga Trail. Then we saw that Polk County was pretty much in the middle of the two trails. So, we booked four days at the Holiday Inn in Cedartown.”

The Drukers said they enjoyed the trail so much that their initial four days turned into four more, and eventually the couple spent two weeks staying in Polk County.
