CONTACT INFORMATION ----------------------- [1] PRODUCT DESCRIPTION ----------------------- "Walk Smart: Pedestrian Safety Program (Grades K-3)" is a multimedia, self-paced CD designed for use at home or in the classroom. The program uses video, animation, and interactive exercises with self-correcting mini-quizzes to teach safe walking skills: - Safety tips for walking on sidewalks, crossing driveways and walking on roads with no sidewalk. - Understanding the walk signals at stop lights. - Watching for cars and determining which cars might turn into your path depending on whether you are at an intersection of two way streets, one way streets, stop signs, etc. In addition to the program, there are PDF files on the CD that offer helpful information. (You will need access to Adobe Acrobat Reader to open these files. This is available for free download at www.adobe.com.) The parent materials file, "WalkParent.pdf", gives families a quick overview of the contents of the program, and includes a safety sheet describing the three main rules covered in "Walk Smart". We suggest that parents print this out so they can help their children remember the primary rules for safety. The teacher materials file, "WalkTeacher.pdf", outlines program pre-requisite skills, program length, and instructional design. Additionally, this file contains classroom expansion activities to reinforce the safety lessons provided in "Walk Smart". It is also recommended that teachers print out the parent material file, "WalkParent.pdf", as a single sheet (double-sided) handout to send home with the students.
